Early Years Foundation Stage
Welcome to Early Years!
Welcome to all of our new and returning children, parents and carers. Starting Early years is an exciting time, your child will learn lots of new things and acquire new skills. We are really looking forward to the year ahead!
The children each planted their own bean plant to care for in school and watch it grow.
When it is ready, we will send the bean plants home. We explored some green beanstalk spaghetti.
The children enjoyed feeling the cold slimy texture and then snipping it using scissors.
Alice said “It was warm”
Nichelle said “It feels very soft and cold and very green”
Jesse said “It’s very sticky and gluey”
Alice said “It’s a beanstalk, I put a bean in and covered it in soil. It growed”
Asim said “It’s growing because it needs to grow. We need to put soil on it and water”
They were invited to come to school in blue or green, and took part in various activities.
They made a paper earth using squeezy bottles filled with blue and green paint, they have also learnt about recycling and how it can save our planet.
We read the book ‘Somebody swallowed Stanley’ about how a plastic bag is dumped into the ocean and swallowed by sea creatures.
They had a great day.
It is about a cat who finds a bean and hopes for a beanstalk to grow.
He plants it and each day waits for it to grow.
We have also been reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk'

Over the Easter period the children have been busy making Easter cards.
We have explored an Easter tray with eggs, chicks and grass.
We went on an Easter egg hunt and also tasted hot cross buns.
To celebrate Eid, in Nursery we have enjoyed some yummy food this afternoon as a special treat that the children have been looking forward to.
We ate onion Bhajis, cheese and onion rolls, popcorn, raisins and some tasty juice.
They had lots of fun dancing with their friends.
The children in Reception had a lovely day celebrating Eid, we had music, dancing and party games.
They each made their own cheese salad wrap which they have been preparing for this week in D&T lessons.
They have had lots of fun.
This week the children enjoyed a session from ‘City In The Community, provided by Manchester City.
Coach Carl and Coach Amy came to play lots of fun games, we were lava monsters and had to protect our balls and run from the volcano cones.
The children had a great time.
Today, we were visited by the ducklings that were hatched in Year 2.
We all took turns to stroke the ducklings and watched them have a little paddle in the water.
To celebrate ‘World Book Day’ the children have come into school dressed as their favourite book character or in their pyjamas. We have shared some of our favourite stories throughout the day and played with some small world characters from stories we love to read.
The children in foundation stage took part in a workshop by the Freshwater Theatre. They went on a dinosaur story hunt to create their own dinosaur story. We looked at different types of dinosaurs and what kind of food they eat. At the end, the story was complete. The children each played a special part.
In Nursery we have been making fruit salad, we chopped banana, pear and grapes.
The children carefully cut the fruit and added it to the bowl, we mixed it up and ate the delicious fruit salad.
The children had a special visit from Santa. He left some presents for the children and even read them a story.
The children in Early years have had a Christmas party. we did some dancing and played some party games. We also enjoyed our party food.
The children have joined in a workshop led by the Kickstart Outreach Workers. The children explored colours through creative activities with their parents.
Today in Early years we helped to decorate the big Christmas tree in the school hall. Just before home time the whole school came together in the hall to see the tree lights switched on.
The children in Nursery have been shape stamping with paints. They have been naming the different shapes they are using and naming the colours.
The children in Reception went on a journey around our school. We found beautiful stones in the Peace Garden
In Reception We have learnt about farm animals. We worked together to make a farm for our toy animals. We sorted the animals into sets and made pens to keep them safe.
Over the past few weeks, the children have been reading various bear stories. We have read ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see?’, ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear what do you hear?’, ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ and ‘Whatever next’ We have enjoyed looking and learning about the bears. Today, the children have painted their own bears.
We collected autumn treasures on our autumn walk and made journey sticks. The story sticks helped us to talk about our journey.
In Understanding the World we learnt about living and non-living things. We thought about which things could move, grow, eat and drink.
We have collected leaves, twigs and seeds whilst on our autumn walk to use in our creative area.
Phonics Workshop!
The reception parents and carers were invited into school for the afternoon to get involved with the ‘phonics workshop’. They were given an insight into how they can support children at home with their phonics and how it is taught at school. The children and their grownups were then able to learn through play together and explore a variety of areas within our early years setting.

The children have settled well in the first week back! They have all enjoyed making new friends and exploring the new resources!
