Year 3

Welcome back to the last term of the academic year Year 3 children!

We hope that you have all had a decent rest and a lovely holiday, and ready to get back to school. Let's try our hardest to smash this last term ahead! It is nice to see you all back in school. Massive well done to all the participants. From Miss Cookson and Miss Hoang.

On Wednesday, 20th July, we went to St Anne's Beach as our last trip of Year 3. It took us 2 hours on the bus to get there. We played games, built sand castles and had sandwiches together at the beach.

After that, we had some ice cream and spent some time at the park. Everyone had a fun day!

Article 29: Your education should help you use and develop your talents and abilities.

On Friday 27th May, our school celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and held a St-Augustines got talent show. Everyone dressed up in white, blue or/and red colours. Each year performed 4 acts in front of the whole school and at the end of the celebration, we voted for the the performance that we thought that was the best. We also had sandwiches and tea time in the afternoon. Everyone had such a great fun day!

                                                                              A trip to

On Wednesday 26th May, Year 3 went on a school trip to Pizza Express which locates in the Corn Exchange building in town. We turned up early in school to get ready for the trip. When we get there, everything was ready for us. We got to watch the chef to make the dough and some children got to touch and throw the the dough in the air. Next we spread the tomato sauce and put cheese and pepperoni on top of our pizza. The chefs then helped us put our pizza into the oven and we just had to wait until our pizza was cooked. In the meantime, we had an interesting discussion about the origin of pizza, other types of pizza and  also about the company Pizza Express in particular. When our pizza was done, they were all boxed up neatly and we said goodbye to Pizza Express and gave everyone a massive thank and for a great fun day!!

After all the hard work...

And we got to eat the delicious pizza we made ourselves when we got back in school.

Article 30: You have the right to practice your own culture, language and religion.

On Friday 6th May, we celebrated Eid party together. The children were encouraged to wear their lovely dresses and outfits to school. We sat in a circle where anyone celebrated Eid shared and discussed what they had done with their family. We also had some traditional food and snacks in the classroom, then played games and danced together in the hall.

Everyone had a fantastic day!

Great sewing artists

Update:

Thursday 28 of April, Year 3 have completed sewing their cushions, both the back and the front. Here are the lovely creative hand-made cushions made by Year 3 artists!!

Thursday 21st of April, we were learning to sew and decorate our own cushions. The children were excited to do sewing with real needle and also use buttons to make their cushions look excellent. Here are some cushion fronts that we were working on.

Happy New Year!!

We hope you all had a lovely break and are ready to get back learning.

The P.E kits that were given out at the beginning of the year have now been sent home with the children. We are now encouraging all children to come in school in the P.E kits on P.E days. The P.E days have now changed for Year 3, these are now Monday and Tuesday. The P.E kit consists of black joggers and white t-shirt, with appropriate footwear.

Thank you and have a lovely 2022.

Science: Parts and Functions of a Plant

Update:

On Thursday 31st of March, the colour of the flowers have changed just like what the children predicted. The colour of the flowers have changed into the colour of the water the roots obtained from the pot. We sat in a circle, passed the pot around and came up with questions they were wondering and discussed with each other. They were so surprised and excited to learn at how water affects plants.

On Tuesday 29th of March, we had another experiment in order to see how water can change the colour of flowers. We put different food colouring and white flowers in different pots. Year 3 children had some predictions and were excited to see the results in a few days.

Update 2:

Before Easter holiday, the children brought their own seed home and they were shown how to look after it properly. On Tuesday 19th of April after Easter holiday, Mercy brought hers to school and it has grown massively! How amazing!

Update 1:

On Monday 28th of March, the seeds started to grow!

On Friday 25th of March, we started to learn about plants, parts and functions of a plant in Science. We had an experiment with bean seeds to see how they can grow in an environment with adequate water, light and air. We put a bean seed in a bag where there was a soaking wet paper towel, let the bag stay open the whole time and put it in a place where there was some sunshine. Each child has grown their own seed and had their own bag with their name on it. They were very excited to see the results.

Happy World Book Day! Year 3 children, you're all fantastic readers!

On Thursday 3rd March 2022, we were celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day. World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading. To celebrate it, Year 3 children came to school in either pajama or embody their favourite character through fantastic costumes. We've seen Harry Porter, Matilda and a lot more amazing book characters coming to life, which was fantastic! We lined up and did a "show" so that the whole school could see our lovely outfits.

Year 3 children were encouraged to bring their favourite book to share with our class. When the bell rang, everyone stopped what they were doing and started to read for 10 minutes. They read in pairs, in groups and share their fantastic ideas with each other, or immerse themselves into their own world by the bookshelf. They were also encouraged to design a book cover based on their favourite book. Our lovely children's reading and creative moments were all captured.

After reading and sharing ideas, our children had an afternoon tea with sweet treats and read books in groups. But before that, our children were encouraged to help the adults in the class prepare for the party. Here, our children have learnt a lot of skills through practice, such as making sandwiches, spreading jam on cakes, cutting fruit and cakes using fractions they have just learnt (half, third, quarter). We really had a lot of fun!

Happy Lunar New Year - Year of Tiger

Today, the 3rd day of Lunar New Year, we learnt about what Lunar New Year was, how they celebrated the event and what people normally do in New Year. Year 3 also learnt to make a hand-made lantern with Miss Hoang and enjoyed some traditional snacks from some Asian countries like China, Vietnam, Thai, Japan and Korea. The children loved it!

Best wishes for Year 3 this year!

Party Time

It was Christmas party day in Year 3! We got up to fun activities all day. First, we started with designing our own festive table cloths, and then we enjoyed our Christmas treats off Miss Lamb and Miss Cookson. We then finished the day by having a dance in the hall and playing fun Christmas games! It was such a fun day, we all can’t wait to have a rest and enjoy the Christmas holidays.

Well done year 3 for an amazing term, we have seen you all grow into mature Year 3’s. You all looked amazing in your party clothes. Thank you for all the fun and memories so far. Have a lovely rest, you deserve it! From Miss Lamb and Miss Cookson.

Every Tuesday the music man 'Ed' comes to visit our class! During the sessions, we sing, make music and practice how to improve our vocals. Recently we have been working on making our own music and lyrics. We wanted to share with you our own song. The song is all about Manchester, we hope you enjoy!!!

Christmas Snow

The Countdown to Christmas has now started! This week we have put the baubles on the Christmas. We love how festive our classroom looks and can’t wait for all the festive stuff we will be working on. Let’s all have a merry December!

Article 27: Share our food and clothes with people who have none

For Children in Need, this year we raised money for the cause by wearing yellow or own clothes. We all made a small donation to the charity! Children in Need is an important day to the school as it allows us to think about the children who are in need and what we can do to help. We all looked great in our Pudsey ears!

For Black History Month this year, Year 3 have been looking at two inspiration Black women. We focused on Josephine Baker and Katherine Johnson.

Katherine Johnson was an American who was known for the mathematician calculations. She worked for NASA as a human calculator, Katherine Johnson was recognised for her fight against segregation! She truly was a role model for young black girls and shown that black women were able to have the same opportunities as white people.

Josephine Baker was born in 1906 in the USA. When she was just 14 she landed a job with a group of travelling musician. Josephine was even given the leading role in the first all-black Broadway show. Josephine became a star and moved to France, as there was no segregation. Later in life when she returned to the USA she thought for rights around racism!

On Friday the 22nd of October, we presented these two women’s incredible stories, to raise awareness of Black History Month! It was great to share the stories to rest of the school.

The Iron Age

This Half term we have been learning about the Stone Age, We have all learned interesting facts about the Stone Age, such as, did you know it’s called the Stone Age because humans who lived during that time made weapons and tools out of stone. We looked in to different artist who created work around the Stone Age and we created some ourselves! In History we also looked at how they lived, what they wore and what they would eat and drink.

On Friday the 24th of September the whole school took part in take over day! Throughout the day the pupils became the teachers and the teachers became pupils. All pupils had the opportunity to teach the class lessons and two pupils overtook the role of Miss Cookson and Miss Lamb. Those lucky two were Safah as Miss Topping and Ismail as Miss Lamb.

The lessons which the children taught included Baking. Draw with Jess, learning Urdu and Dinosaur talk. They all did an amazing job at teaching us these lessons and we all had an amazing day and enjoyed everyone's lessons!
